Plan It, Pack It, Love It: Your 7-Day Countdown to Takeoff
We all love a good getaway, but sometimes travel prep can feel like a second full-time job. Between packing, planning, and making sure the dog-sitter knows not to feed Fido cheese (again), it’s easy to feel overwhelmed. I see you! That’s why I created this 7-day travel prep timeline to help you get organized those last few days without losing your mind. Whether you’re traveling across the country, around the world, or just down the road, this list will help keep you on track, confident, and ready to go. Let’s go!
7 Days Before: The Big Picture
This is your planning day. Think logistics, not laundry.
- Confirm your travel reservations (flights, hotels, rental cars—yes, even that airport parking).
- Check passports, IDs, and travel documents.
- Research the weather and local customs so you can pack smart.
- Make a shopping list for any last-minute items like sunscreen, travel-size toiletries, or a charger that doesn’t fray when you look at it.
6 Days Before: Wardrobe Strategy
Don’t just throw everything in your suitcase and hope for the best.
- Plan your outfits based on activities (and yes, comfort and cuteness matter).
- Do a quick try-on session to make sure everything fits, is weather-appropriate, and makes you feel like a jetsetter.
- Start doing laundry so you’re not panic-washing at midnight before departure.
- If anything needs dry cleaning or repairs, handle it now-future you will be so grateful.
5 Days Before: Your House, Your Rules
Nothing’s worse than coming home to chaos.
- Start tidying the house. We’re talking surface-level now, deep clean later.
- Make arrangements for pets, plants, and mail.
- Set up timers for lights if you’ll be gone overnight.
- Back up your phone and important files—because tech meltdowns are not on the itinerary.
4 Days Before: Get Your Bags Together
It’s time to start assembling the puzzle pieces.
- Pull out your suitcase and carry-on.
- Lay out your clothes and toiletries.
- Gather travel documents, printed confirmations, and passports in one place.
- Start packing anything you won’t need in the next few days.
3 Days Before: Details, Details
This is where things start clicking into place.
- Confirm reservations again (we don’t trust last-minute cancellations).
- Download any travel apps, boarding passes, or maps.
- Charge up power banks, tablets, and headphones.
- Refill prescriptions and make sure you have your meds in your carry-on.
2 Days Before: The Final Stretch
Almost there!
- Pack your suitcase (for real this time). Roll, don’t fold, and leave a little room for souvenirs.
- Pack your carry-on or personal item with essentials: snacks, water bottle, travel docs, a book, and your charger.
- Prep snacks or meals for the road or airport.
- Clean out the fridge and take out the trash. You do not want to come home to a science experiment.
1 Day Before: Boss Mode Activated
Time to tie up loose ends and breathe.
- Do a final house sweep. Dishes done? Laundry folded? Dog hair vacuumed? Check.
- Set out your travel outfit. Yes, it matters.
- Double check IDs, chargers, and tickets.
- Go to bed early (or at least try). Tomorrow’s the day!
Bonus Tips for the Type A (or Type A-ish)
- Keep a running travel list in your Notes app.
- Store your must-haves in a designated “travel box” year-round.
- Keep toiletries pre-packed and ready to toss into your bag.
Bon Voyage!
Prepping for travel doesn’t have to feel like a full-blown operation. With this 7-day countdown list, you can stay organized, stress-free, and have just the right amount of extra. So zip that suitcase, grab your boarding pass, and get ready to enjoy your trip like the organized goddess you are.
